Dr. Benjamin “Benji” Xie
Postdoctoral Fellow
Stanford University’s Human-Computer Interaction Group
Dr. Benjamin “Benji” Xie (he/him) is a Postdoctoral Fellow with Stanford University’s Human-Computer Interaction Group and Graduate School of Education and assistant coach with East Palo Alto Academy’s cross country and track teams. His goal is for young people to learn about data by connecting data with their interests in community action. He facilitates the Neighborhood Environmental Advocacy & Technology (NEAT) Fellowship, a collaboration with young people, teachers, and community-based organizations in East Palo Alto to teach about data and programming for environmental advocacy. For the past two years, young people in the NEAT Fellowship have co-designed learning experiences that built their capacity to work with data (e.g. air quality data, data from people, geospatial data) to create community gardens. Benji also researches equitable uses of AI in computing education and taught about technology ethics in Stanford computer science courses. In fall 2025, Benji will start as an Assistant Professor at the University of Denver Department of Computer Science.
