Project Manager
San Mateo County Flood and Sea Level Rise Resiliency District (OneShoreline)

Makena Wong is a Project Manager for the San Mateo County Flood and Sea Level Rise Resiliency District (also known as OneShoreline). She is motivated by bold, science-driven climate adaptation measures and policy, with a focus on seeking justice for underserved and vulnerable communities. After joining OneShoreline in July 2020, she has led OneShoreline's first regional sea level rise project, the Millbrae and Burlingame Shoreline Resilience Project and led the development of OneShoreline's Planning Policy Guidance, a first-of-its-kind resource to incorporate climate hazards into land use decision making in San Mateo County. In June 2020, Makena completed a Masters degree in Environmental Engineering at Stanford University, during which she participated in the Stanford Future Bay Initiative analyzing risks associated with climate-driven flooding in North Fair Oaks and completed a climate policy fellowship with the National Audubon Society in Washington D.C. Prior to graduate studies, she worked in environmental engineering consulting and received her B.S. in Civil Engineering at Santa Clara University.
