Understanding the Root Causes of Climate Change and Its Impact on Human Health

9:45am - Main Stage

How do we understand climate change and its adverse impacts on health and livelihoods in the context of the political, economic, and cultural systems that we live in? In our opening plenary, Dr. Khalid Osman (Stanford) will facilitate a discussion with Dr. Jonathan Cordero (Association of Ramaytush Ohlone), Ofelia Bello (Youth United for Community Action), Sara Moncada (Cultural Conservancy), and Anpo Jensen (Honor the Earth) that asks us to better consider the root causes of both climate change and its worsening impacts on human health at both local and global scales. Speakers will discuss the relationship between ecosystem and human health, the impacts of displacement, dispossession, and colonialism on physical, mental, and spiritual health, and methods for integrating a root-cause mentality into our climate mitigation and adaptation approaches.
